What is a Whole Foods Plant-Based Diet?
The Whole Foods Plant-Based (WFPB) diet is centered around consuming whole, unprocessed plant foods while minimizing or eliminating the intake of animal products and processed foods. It emphasizes eating fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds.
By following a WFPB diet, people can experience a wide range of health benefits. Research has shown that this way of eating can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. It can promote weight loss (because of calorie density – more on that here) and improve overall gut health.
One of the key principles of the WFPB diet is the avoidance of processed foods. This means limiting foods that contain added sugars, refined grains, and unhealthy fats. Instead, the focus is on consuming foods in their natural, unprocessed form, which are rich in essential nutrients, fiber, and antioxidants.
Transitioning to a WFPB diet may seem overwhelming at first, but there are many resources available to support you on your journey. Our coaching services include a 4-Week Whole Foods Plant-Based Lifestyle Transition Program and a Pantry Overhaul + Grocery Shopping Trip to provide personalized education, coaching, meal planning training, and support.
When adopting a WFPB lifestyle, it’s important to ensure you’re meeting your nutritional needs. While plant-based diets can provide all the necessary nutrients, it's recommended to make sure you're getting adequate B12, which can be found in some fortified plant milks, nutritional yeast, or taken in supplement form.
Not only does the Whole Foods Plant-Based diet benefit individual health, but it also has a positive impact on the environment. Animal agriculture is a huge contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and deforestation. By reducing the consumption of animal products, we can limit our effects on climate change and help future generations enjoy our planet.
If you're interested in transitioning to a WFPB lifestyle, we’re here to provide you with the necessary support and resources.
